ACNE & ACNE SCAR Treatment

Acne results from clogged hair follicles. Oil, dirt, and dead skin cells on the surface of your skin clog your pores and generate pimples or small, localized infections. Treatments work to clear away bacteria and dry up the additional oils that lead to acne. Different acne treatments include lifestyle remedies, oral medication, topical medication, and medical procedures.
If you’ve tried over-the-counter (nonprescription) acne products for numerous weeks and they haven’t helped, ask our skilled doctors about prescription-strength medications. Our professional dermatologists can help you with the following:
• Avoid scarring or other damage to your skin
• Make scars less noticeable
• Control your acne
Acne medications reduce oil production and swelling or treat bacterial infections. You might not see outcomes for four to eight weeks with most prescription acne drugs. It can take many months or years for your acne to clear up entirely.
The treatment regimen our doctor suggests changes on your age, the type and severity of your acne, and what you are willing to commit to. For instance, you might need to wash and apply medicines to the impacted skin twice a day for several weeks. Topical medicines and drugs you take by mouth (oral medication) are often used in the mixture. Treatment options for pregnant women are limited due to the risk of side effects.
Talk with our doctors about the risks and benefits of medicines and other treatments you are considering. And make follow-up schedules with our skilled doctors every three to six months until your skin improves.

How We Treat ACNE & ACNE SCARS

For some people, the subsequent therapies might be useful, either alone or in combination with medications.
• Chemical peel. This method uses repeated products of a chemical solution, such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or retinoic acid. This treatment is for mild acne. It might enhance the presence of the skin, though the change is not long-lasting, and repeat treatments are usually needed.
• Light therapy. A selection of light-based therapies has been tried with some success. Most will require multiple visits to your doctor’s office.
• Drainage and extraction. We might use special tools to gently remove whiteheads, blackheads, or cysts that haven’t cleared up with topical medicines. This technique momentarily improves the appearance of your skin, but it might also cause scarring.
• Steroid injection. Nodular and cystic lesions can be handled by injecting a steroid drug into them. This therapy has followed rapid improvement and decreased pain. Side effects may include skin thinning and discoloration in the treated area.
• Antibiotics. You may need oral antibiotics to reduce bacteria for mild to severe acne. Usually, the first option for treating acne is tetracycline (minocycline, doxycycline) or a macrolide (erythromycin, azithromycin). A macrolide might be an alternative for people who can’t take tetracyclines, like pregnant women and children under eight years old.
